Aesthetic notes taking ideas (tips)

Creating aesthetically pleasing notes in class not only helps in better retention of information but also makes the learning process more enjoyable. Here’s my perspective on how to achieve this:

The Art of Aesthetic Note-

Making: A Personal Perspective

Taking notes during class can often feel like a mundane task, but with a bit of creativity and organization, it can transform into an art form, with practice you will be able to complete the task on time. Aesthetic notes not only make studying more enjoyable but also enhance memory retention and comprehension. Here’s how I approach aesthetic note-making.

1. Choosing the Right Tools

The foundation of beautiful notes starts with the right tools. I prefer using:

Notebooks: Dotted or grid notebooks are ideal as they provide structure without being overly intrusive. Ruled notebook can be good option for school students as the work looks neat and you don't have difficulty in writing it in ruled page. Spiral binding notebooks are easy to fold and gives a aesthetic look.

Pens and Markers: A variety of colors can make different sections pop. I use fine liners or ink pen for writing and brush pens, highlighters colour pens, etc for headings.

Highlighters: Pastel highlighters add a subtle touch without being too overwhelming. Pastel brush pens are good for attractive titles.

Stickers , Sticky notes and Washi Tape: These are great for adding personality and breaking the monotony. sticky notes are good for short quick notes or tips in the writings.

2. Planning the Layout

Before diving into note-taking, I spend a minute planning the layout. This includes:

Margins: I leave wide margins for annotations and additional notes.

Headers and Subheaders: Clear headings with larger fonts or different colors help in quickly identifying sections. Headers should be creative and attractive.

Bullet Points and Numbering: Organized information is easier to digest. You can use different designs or types of bullet points →☞☉。◕➜

Dividers- use dotted lines or colour pens lines to divide different topics in between to make the notes look clean.

3. Incorporating Visual Elements

Visual aids are crucial for understanding and memory retention. Here’s how I incorporate them:

Diagrams and Charts: Whenever possible, I include diagrams, flowcharts, and mind maps. Diagrams can be added in sticky notes.

Icons and Symbols: Simple icons next to key points can make notes more engaging and easier to review.

Color Coding: Different colors for different topics or types of information (e.g., definitions in blue, dates in red) make scanning notes faster. Use gradients or choose only one colour combo for neat work.

4. Writing Techniques

The way you write also impacts the aesthetic and functionality of your notes:

Handwriting: While perfect handwriting is not a necessity, legible and consistent handwriting improves the overall look.

Spacing: Adequate spacing between lines and sections prevents clutter and enhances readability.

Emphasis: Using bold, italics, or underlining for key terms and concepts ensures they stand out.

5. Review and Refine

After the class, I review my notes and refine them:

Highlight Key Points: Emphasizing the most critical information helps during revisions.

Add Summaries: Brief summaries at the end of each section reinforce what’s been learned.

Fill in Gaps: If there were parts I missed during the lecture, I fill them in from textbooks or online resources.

6. Digital Note-Making

Digital note making can be difficult or not efficient everytime bu you can try for a change.

Sometimes, digital notes are more practical, especially for sharing and editing:

Apps: Applications like Notion, OneNote, or GoodNotes offer various tools for aesthetic note-taking.

Stylus and Tablet: Writing on a tablet with a stylus can mimic the experience of traditional note-taking while allowing for easy corrections and additions.

Templates: Pre-made templates can save time and provide a consistent structure.

Conclusion

Aesthetic note-making is a blend of creativity, organization, and personal style. While it may require a bit more effort initially, the benefits in terms of enhanced learning and enjoyment are well worth it. Remember, the goal is to make your notes functional and beautiful, aiding in your academic journey and making the process as enjoyable as the results.

By integrating these techniques, anyone can transform their note-taking into a visually appealing and highly effective study tool.
